Board Recognizes Students for Perfect Scores on Diploma Exams
In a special ceremony held earlier today (March 20, 2013), the Peace River School Division (PRSD) Board of Trustees celebrated the accomplishments of three grade twelve students. Wyatt Beach, Brett Laue and Michelle Gordon were recognized for achieving a perfect score on their Mathematics 30-1 Diploma exam.
“We are very proud of Wyatt, Michelle and Brett” says Nan Bartlett, PRSD Board Chair. “Achieving a perfect score on the Math 30-1 diploma exam is an outstanding accomplishment that displays the dedication these students have toward their education”
Wyatt Beach, Peace River High School student is described by his teachers as a student that possess a strong work ethic, positive attitude and great perseverance. Wyatt is a member of the Peace River Rotary Interact Club and participates in fundraising events in the community and abroad. He will also attend Alberta Education’s “SPEAK OUT” conference in April to provide a student perspective on educational topics.
Michelle Gordon attends Fairview High School and in addition to achieving a perfect score on her Math 30-1 Diploma Exam, she achieved a final course mark of 100 percent. Michelle’s teachers say that she possess the “highest possible level of academic performance” and “her desire to excel allows her to devote unrestricted amounts of time to her work and her products show her deep concern for quality” Michelle’s post-secondary interests are in the area of bio-engineering.
Brett Laue, a Fairview High School student is no stranger to high achievement on provincial tests. In addition to this recent accomplishment, Brett achieved a perfect score on his grade nine Science Provincial Achievement Test in 2009. His teachers say that “Brett couples strong academic performance with social service and leadership” and that he is a major asset to FHS as his efforts are also essential to groups such as the Students Union and the school yearbook.
During the special ceremony Nan Bartlett, Board Chair extended congratulations to the students. “Thank you for your contributions to your school, community and for being an important part of the Peace River School Division family” said Bartlett. “We wish you all the best in the last few months of high school and in all your future endeavors.”
Frank Oberle, Peace River MLA and Hector Goudreau, Dunvegan-Central Peace-Notley MLA, sent messages of congratulations to the students. Oberle and Goudreau were unable to attend due to prior commitments.
