Jr girls win gold!

The weekend of January 15-16 was another successful one for the Junior Lady Cobras, winning gold at home in the 2nd Annual Gord Ivey Invitational Tournament.

In our first game, the girls beat Peace Wapiti Academy from Grande Prairie by a score of 41-22. All the girls showed great enthusiasm and effort in this game.

This win put us in the semi-finals against a tough Hythe Mustang team. In a back and forth battle, the girls overcame a strong opposition, taking the win 46-45.

Special mention must be made of the effort and play of two girls. Delaney Giles played great defense against a worthy adversary. Without Delaney’s tough defense, the game would have gone differently. Jayme Rasmussen sparked a comeback in third quarter when we were behind 6 points, scoring 6 points in a row and assisting on another 2 points, which allowed us to gain back the lead.

In the gold medal game, we played the Menno Simons Panthers. In another back and forth game, the Cobras, led by leading scorer and point guard Caitlin Paul, prevailed by three points, 29-26, to take the gold medal.
